Our therapeutic boarding school is a faith-based residential program with a heart for character development and family unity. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like atmosphere in which struggling adolescents take on better life attitudes, grow in their belief, find a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with engaging recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our beautiful mountainous location is a great place for backpacking, camping and hiking.
New Horizons Boys Ranch endeavors to promote academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and mentoring them to rebuild relationships. Teens attend New Horizons Boys Ranch from around the country, including from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and often find it constructive to experience a new environment away from local peer groups.
Every adolescent begins by forming a relationship with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores build a solid work ethic and many other desirable character qualities. Then, framed by a relationship with a mentor, the child can tackle the destructive choices that had caused the need for intervention. We also offer individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also uses independent study courses. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits our students well, making it possible for them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any successful education, and we convey this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Genuine family restoration takes place only with the total commitment of parents. We ask parents to attend three family workshops during the year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen on our campus. We facilitate frequent contact between parents and their children using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
