Our therapeutic boarding school is a Christian residential program focused on character maturity and family restoration. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which struggling adolescents take on better life attitudes, flourish in their belief, live in a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with inviting recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our beautiful mountainous location provides excellent opportunity for backpacking, camping and hiking.
New Horizons Boys Ranch strives to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents arrive at New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the country, including from Arlington Heights, Illinois, and often find it advantageous to experience a new environment away from local peer groups.
Each boy begins by building trust with an adult mentor. Strenuous activities and daily chores foster a solid work ethic and countless other desirable character qualities. Then, framed by a relationship with a mentor, the adolescent can tackle the destructive choices that had held him or her back. We also use individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also uses independent study courses. All credits accumulated transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits our students well, allowing them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key role in any worthwhile education, and we convey this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Lasting family restoration takes place only with the full cooperation of parents. We request parents to attend three family workshops during the year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child at our facility. We facilitate frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which promotes communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
We are a Christ-centered program that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, we believe in values and character traits that will be profitable for your child into adulthood.
