New Horizons Boys Ranch is a faith-based residential program with a mission for character maturity and family restoration. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like environment where struggling adolescents take on more positive life attitudes, flourish in their faith, find a safe and nurturing environment, and conquer their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with inviting recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our picturesque mountainous location provides excellent opportunity for backpacking, camping and hiking.
New Horizons Boys Ranch strives to develop academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Teens come to New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the country, including from Bakersfield, California, and often find it constructive to grow in a new environment separate from local peer groups.
Each adolescent begins by establishing a relationship with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores foster a solid work ethic and countless other desirable character qualities. Then, supported by a relationship with a mentor, the adolescent can tackle the destructive choices that had caused the need for intervention. We also use individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Students at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also consists of independent study courses. All credits earned transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced attribute of the coursework suits our students well, making it possible for them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any successful education, and we communicate this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Genuine family restoration takes place only with the full cooperation of parents. We request parents to attend three family workshops during the year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen at our facility. We assist with frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which promotes communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
NHBR is a Christ-centered youth ranch that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, we believe in values and character traits that will serve your child for the rest of his or her life.
