Our therapeutic boarding school is a Christian residential school with a mission for character growth and family renewal. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which struggling adolescents develop better life attitudes, flourish in their belief, experience a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with inviting recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our gorgeous mountainous location is a great place for backpacking, camping and hiking.
New Horizons Boys Ranch works hard to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and mentoring them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents come to New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the nation, including from Des Moines, Iowa, and often find it beneficial to spend time in a new environment detached from local peer groups.
Every adolescent begins by forming a relationship with an adult mentor. Strenuous activities and daily chores build a strong work ethic and countless other attractive character qualities. Then, supported by a relationship with a mentor, the teen can overcome the destructive choices that had held him or her back. We also use individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also offers independent study courses. All credits accumulated transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits our students well, permitting them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key role in any successful education, and we convey this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration occurs only with the full cooperation of parents. We ask parents to attend three family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen on our campus. We facilitate frequent contact between parents and their children using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
We are a faith-based program that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we believe in values and character traits that will serve your child into adulthood. Please consider looking outside of Des Moines, Iowa to see how our caring program can bring about restoration in your family.
