NHBR is a Christian residential program with a mission for character growth and family unity. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like atmosphere where struggling adolescents take on more positive life attitudes, grow in their faith, live in a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with inviting recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our gorgeous mountainous location provides excellent opportunity for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Our school strives to develop academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Teens arrive at New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the country, including from Fresno, California, and often find it constructive to experience a new environment away from local peer groups.
Each boy begins by building trust with an adult mentor. Strenuous activities and daily chores contribute to a strong work ethic and countless other positive character qualities. Then, supported by a relationship with a mentor, the child can overcome the destructive choices that had caused the need for intervention. We also offer individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Students at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also consists of independent study courses. All credits earned transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits our students well, allowing them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any productive education, and we convey this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration takes place only with the total commitment of parents. We request parents to attend three family workshops during the year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen at our facility. We facilitate frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which promotes communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
We are a Christ-centered program that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we teach values and character traits that will be profitable for your child into adulthood. Please consider looking beyond Fresno, California to see how our caring program can bring about restoration in your family.
