Our therapeutic boarding school is a Christian residential school focused on character growth and family unity. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like atmosphere where troubled adolescents adopt better life attitudes, grow in their faith, live in a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with inviting recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our beautiful mountainous location has much to offer in backpacking, camping and hiking.
New Horizons Boys Ranch works hard to develop academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Teens attend New Horizons Boys Ranch from around the country, including from Houston, Texas, and often find it beneficial to experience a new environment away from local peer groups.
Each teen begins by forming a relationship with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores contribute to a solid work ethic and numerous other positive character qualities. Then, supported by a relationship with a mentor, the teen can overcome the destructive choices that had caused the need for intervention. We also offer individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also consists of independent study courses. All credits earned transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced attribute of the coursework suits our students well, allowing them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any productive education, and we convey this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Lasting family restoration happens only with the close involvement of parents. We require parents to attend three family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child at our facility. We support frequent contact between parents and teens using tools such as letter writing, which promotes communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
NHBR is a Christ-centered youth ranch that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, we stand by values and character traits that will benefit your child for the rest of his or her life. Please consider looking outside of Houston, Texas to see how our caring program can bring restoration to your family.
