NHBR is a Christian residential program with a heart for character development and family unity. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like environment where troubled adolescents take on better life attitudes, grow in their faith, find a safe and nurturing environment, and triumph over their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with engaging recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our beautiful mountainous location provides excellent opportunity for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Our school strives to promote academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Teens arrive at New Horizons Boys Ranch from around the country, including from Huntington Beach, California, and often find it beneficial to experience a new environment separate from local peer groups.
Each adolescent begins by forming a relationship with an adult mentor. Strenuous activities and daily chores foster a solid work ethic and countless other positive character qualities. Then, supported by a relationship with a mentor, the child can work through the conflicts that had caused the need for intervention. We also use individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Residents at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also uses independent study courses. All credits accumulated transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits our students well, permitting them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any worthwhile education, and we convey this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Genuine family restoration takes place only with the total commitment of parents. We ask parents to attend three family workshops during the year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child on our campus. We assist with frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
NHBR is a faith-based program that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, we believe in values and character traits that will benefit your child into adulthood. Please consider looking beyond Huntington Beach, California to see how our caring program can lead to restoration in your family.
