Our therapeutic boarding school is a Christian residential school with a heart for character development and family restoration. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like atmosphere in which struggling adolescents adopt better life attitudes, flourish in their faith, find a safe and nurturing environment, and conquer their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with engaging recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our picturesque mountainous location has much to offer in backpacking, camping and hiking.
Our school strives to promote academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Teens arrive at New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the nation, including from Irvine, California, and often find it constructive to grow in a new environment detached from local peer groups.
Each teen begins by establishing a relationship with an adult mentor. Engaging activities and daily chores foster a solid work ethic and many other desirable character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the child can overcome the conflicts that had held him or her back. We also provide individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also consists of independent study courses. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits our students well, permitting them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key role in any worthwhile education, and we convey this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Genuine family restoration takes place only with the full cooperation of parents. We request parents to attend three family workshops during the year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child on our campus. We support frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which promotes communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
NHBR is a faith-based youth ranch that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we teach values and character traits that will benefit your child into adulthood. Please think about looking beyond Irvine, California to see how our caring program can lead to restoration in your family.
