boarding schoolsOur therapeutic boarding school is a faith-based residential school focused on character maturity and family renewal. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like atmosphere in which troubled adolescents develop more positive life attitudes, grow in their belief, find a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with engaging recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our beautiful mountainous location has much to offer in backpacking, camping and hiking.

Our school works hard to promote academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Teens arrive at New Horizons Boys Ranch from around the country, including from Los Angeles, California, and often find it constructive to grow in a new environment away from local peer groups.

Each adolescent begins by forming trust with an adult mentor. Engaging activities and daily chores contribute to a solid work ethic and numerous other positive character qualities. Then, supported by a relationship with a mentor, the child can work through the destructive choices that had held him or her back. We also provide individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.

Students at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also offers independent study courses. All credits accumulated transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits our students well, allowing them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key role in any productive education, and we convey this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.

Lasting family restoration happens only with the close involvement of parents. We require parents to attend three family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen on our campus. We support frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.

NHBR is a Christ-centered youth ranch that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we believe in values and character traits that will serve your child for the rest of his or her life. Please think about looking beyond Los Angeles, California to see how our caring program can lead to restoration in your family.
