New Horizons Boys Ranch is a Christian residential program focused on character growth and family unity. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like atmosphere where troubled adolescents develop better life attitudes, flourish in their belief, experience a safe and nurturing environment, and conquer their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with inviting recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our picturesque mountainous location has much to offer in backpacking, camping and hiking.
Our school works hard to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Teens come to New Horizons Boys Ranch from around the country, including from Oakland, California, and often find it beneficial to spend time in a new environment away from local peer groups.
Each adolescent begins by building a relationship with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores contribute to a strong work ethic and many other positive character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the child can work through the destructive choices that had held him or her back. We also offer individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also consists of independent study courses. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced attribute of the coursework suits our students well, making it possible for them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any worthwhile education, and we communicate this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Genuine family restoration takes place only with the full cooperation of parents. We require parents to attend three family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child on our campus. We assist with frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
NHBR is a faith-based program that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we teach values and character traits that will serve your child into adulthood. Please think about looking beyond Oakland, California to see how our caring program can lead to restoration in your family.
