New Horizons Boys Ranch is a Christian residential program focused on character growth and family renewal. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like atmosphere where troubled adolescents develop better life attitudes, grow in their faith, experience a safe and nurturing environment, and triumph over their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with inviting recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our picturesque mountainous location has much to offer in backpacking, camping and hiking.
Our school endeavors to develop academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents attend New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the country, including from Overland Park, Kansas, and often find it advantageous to spend time in a new environment detached from local peer groups.
Each teen begins by forming trust with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores foster a strong work ethic and numerous other positive character qualities. Then, framed by a relationship with a mentor, the adolescent can work through the destructive choices that had caused the need for intervention. We also offer individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Students at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also uses independent study courses. All credits accumulated transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced attribute of the coursework suits our students well, allowing them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key role in any successful education, and we convey this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Genuine family restoration occurs only with the close involvement of parents. We request parents to attend three family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen on our campus. We facilitate frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
NHBR is a faith-based youth ranch that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, we believe in values and character traits that will be profitable for your child for the rest of his or her life. Please think about looking beyond Overland Park, Kansas to see how our caring program can bring about restoration in your family.
