NHBR is a faith-based residential program with a mission for character growth and family renewal. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which struggling adolescents adopt constructive life attitudes, flourish in their faith, find a safe and nurturing environment, and conquer their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with engaging recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our picturesque mountainous location is a great place for backpacking, camping and hiking.
New Horizons Boys Ranch strives to promote academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents come to New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the country, including from Oxnard, California, and often find it beneficial to grow in a new environment away from local peer groups.
Every teen begins by building trust with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores foster a strong work ethic and numerous other positive character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the teen can overcome the conflicts that had held him or her back. We also provide individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Students at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also consists of independent study courses. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits our students well, permitting them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key role in any successful education, and we communicate this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration happens only with the close involvement of parents. We require parents to attend three family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child on our campus. We support frequent contact between parents and their children using tools such as letter writing, which promotes communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
We are a faith-based program that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we believe in values and character traits that will be profitable for your child all of his or her life. Please consider looking outside of Oxnard, California to see how our caring program can bring restoration to your family.
