New Horizons Boys Ranch is a Christian residential program with a heart for character development and family renewal. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like atmosphere where troubled adolescents develop more positive life attitudes, grow in their faith, find a safe and nurturing environment, and conquer their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with inviting recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our gorgeous mountainous location has much to offer in backpacking, camping and hiking.
New Horizons Boys Ranch strives to develop academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents attend New Horizons Boys Ranch from around the country, including from Peoria, Illinois, and often find it constructive to spend time in a new environment separate from local peer groups.
Every child begins by building trust with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores contribute to a solid work ethic and many other positive character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the teen can overcome the conflicts that had held him or her back. We also use individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also offers independent study courses. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits our students well, making it possible for them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any productive education, and we communicate this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Lasting family restoration occurs only with the close involvement of parents. We require parents to attend three family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child at our facility. We assist with frequent contact between parents and their children using tools such as letter writing, which promotes communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
NHBR is a faith-based youth ranch that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we stand by values and character traits that will benefit your child into adulthood. Please think about looking outside of Peoria, Illinois to see how our caring program can bring restoration to your family.
