Our therapeutic boarding school is a faith-based residential program with a mission for character growth and family renewal. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which troubled adolescents take on constructive life attitudes, flourish in their belief, live in a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with inviting recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our picturesque mountainous location has much to offer in backpacking, camping and hiking.
Our school works hard to develop academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Teens arrive at New Horizons Boys Ranch from around the country, including from Portland, Oregon, and often find it constructive to spend time in a new environment away from local peer groups.
Every child begins by building a relationship with an adult mentor. Engaging activities and daily chores foster a strong work ethic and numerous other positive character qualities. Then, supported by a relationship with a mentor, the adolescent can tackle the destructive choices that had held him or her back. We also use individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Residents at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also offers independent study courses. All credits earned transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced attribute of the coursework suits our students well, permitting them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any worthwhile education, and we convey this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Lasting family restoration happens only with the full cooperation of parents. We ask parents to attend three family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen on our campus. We assist with frequent contact between parents and teens using tools such as letter writing, which promotes communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
We are a Christ-centered program that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we teach values and character traits that will be profitable for your child into adulthood. Please consider looking outside of Portland, Oregon to see how our caring program can bring restoration to your family.
