NHBR is a faith-based residential school with a heart for character maturity and family restoration. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment where troubled adolescents adopt constructive life attitudes, grow in their belief, experience a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with inviting recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our beautiful mountainous location provides excellent opportunity for backpacking, camping and hiking.
New Horizons Boys Ranch works hard to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents arrive at New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the nation, including from Reno, Nevada, and often find it valuable to experience a new environment away from local peer groups.
Every teen begins by establishing trust with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores build a solid work ethic and countless other positive character qualities. Then, supported by a relationship with a mentor, the teen can tackle the destructive choices that had held him or her back. We also use individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also uses independent study courses. All credits accumulated transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits our students well, making it possible for them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any worthwhile education, and we communicate this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration occurs only with the full cooperation of parents. We request parents to attend three family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child on our campus. We facilitate frequent contact between parents and their children using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
We are a faith-based youth ranch that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, we believe in values and character traits that will be profitable for your child into adulthood. Please think about looking beyond Reno, Nevada to see how our caring program can lead to restoration in your family.
