Our therapeutic boarding school is a faith-based residential program focused on character maturity and family renewal. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like atmosphere where struggling adolescents take on constructive life attitudes, grow in their belief, find a safe and nurturing environment, and conquer their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with engaging recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our picturesque mountainous location is a great place for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Our school works hard to develop academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Teens arrive at New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the nation, including from Sacramento, California, and often find it constructive to grow in a new environment detached from local peer groups.
Each child begins by building trust with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores build a strong work ethic and countless other desirable character qualities. Then, supported by a relationship with a mentor, the adolescent can overcome the destructive choices that had caused the need for intervention. We also offer individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also uses independent study courses. All credits accumulated transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced attribute of the coursework suits our students well, allowing them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key role in any productive education, and we convey this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Lasting family restoration takes place only with the full cooperation of parents. We require parents to attend three family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen on our campus. We assist with frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
We are a faith-based program that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, we believe in values and character traits that will benefit your child all of his or her life. Please think about looking outside of Sacramento, California to see how our caring program can bring restoration to your family.
