Our therapeutic boarding school is a Christian residential program with a mission for character development and family unity. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which troubled adolescents develop better life attitudes, grow in their belief, experience a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with engaging recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our gorgeous mountainous location provides excellent opportunity for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Our school endeavors to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents attend New Horizons Boys Ranch from around the country, including from San Jose, California, and often find it beneficial to grow in a new environment detached from local peer groups.
Every child begins by forming trust with an adult mentor. Engaging activities and daily chores contribute to a strong work ethic and numerous other positive character qualities. Then, framed by a relationship with a mentor, the adolescent can tackle the destructive choices that had held him or her back. We also use individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also uses independent study courses. All credits earned transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits our students well, allowing them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key role in any worthwhile education, and we communicate this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Genuine family restoration happens only with the close involvement of parents. We require parents to attend three family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen at our facility. We facilitate frequent contact between parents and teens using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
NHBR is a Christ-centered youth ranch that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we teach values and character traits that will serve your child for the rest of his or her life. Please think about looking beyond San Jose, California to see how our caring program can bring about restoration in your family.
