Our therapeutic boarding school is a faith-based residential program with a heart for character growth and family unity. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like environment where struggling adolescents adopt constructive life attitudes, grow in their belief, find a safe and nurturing environment, and conquer their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with inviting recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our beautiful mountainous location is a great place for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Our school endeavors to promote academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and mentoring them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents come to New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the country, including from South San Francisco, California, and often find it valuable to spend time in a new environment away from local peer groups.
Every adolescent begins by forming trust with an adult mentor. Strenuous activities and daily chores contribute to a solid work ethic and numerous other desirable character qualities. Then, supported by a relationship with a mentor, the child can tackle the destructive choices that had held him or her back. We also provide individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Students at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also consists of independent study courses. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits our students well, permitting them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any successful education, and we convey this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Lasting family restoration happens only with the total commitment of parents. We request parents to attend three family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen at our facility. We support frequent contact between parents and teens using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
NHBR is a faith-based program that leads adolescents to find their place in life.
