NHBR is a faith-based residential school with a mission for character development and family renewal. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like atmosphere in which struggling adolescents develop better life attitudes, flourish in their belief, live in a safe and nurturing environment, and triumph over their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with engaging recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our beautiful mountainous location has much to offer in backpacking, camping and hiking.
Our school works hard to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Teens attend New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the nation, including from Stockton, California, and often find it advantageous to grow in a new environment separate from local peer groups.
Each adolescent begins by forming a relationship with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores build a strong work ethic and numerous other attractive character qualities. Then, supported by a relationship with a mentor, the adolescent can work through the conflicts that had held him or her back. We also provide individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Students at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also consists of independent study courses. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits our students well, permitting them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key role in any worthwhile education, and we communicate this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Genuine family restoration takes place only with the close involvement of parents. We ask parents to attend three family workshops during the year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen on our campus. We assist with frequent contact between parents and teens using tools such as letter writing, which promotes communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
NHBR is a faith-based program that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we teach values and character traits that will benefit your child for the rest of his or her life. Please think about looking outside of Stockton, California to see how our caring program can bring about restoration in your family.
