NHBR is a faith-based residential school with a mission for character development and family renewal. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like environment where struggling adolescents develop more positive life attitudes, flourish in their faith, experience a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with engaging recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our beautiful mountainous location is a great place for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Our school works hard to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents arrive at New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the nation, including from Tacoma, Washington, and often find it valuable to spend time in a new environment separate from local peer groups.
Each child begins by establishing trust with an adult mentor. Engaging activities and daily chores foster a strong work ethic and numerous other desirable character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the teen can work through the conflicts that had caused the need for intervention. We also use individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Residents at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also consists of independent study courses. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits our students well, permitting them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key role in any successful education, and we convey this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Lasting family restoration happens only with the close involvement of parents. We request parents to attend three family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen on our campus. We support frequent contact between parents and teens using tools such as letter writing, which strengthens communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
We are a Christ-centered youth ranch that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we teach values and character traits that will be profitable for your child all of his or her life. Please think about looking outside of Tacoma, Washington to see how our caring program can bring restoration to your family.
