New Horizons Boys Ranch is a faith-based residential program with a mission for character maturity and family restoration. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which troubled adolescents take on better life attitudes, grow in their belief, live in a safe and nurturing environment, and triumph over their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with engaging recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our gorgeous mountainous location provides excellent opportunity for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Our school endeavors to develop academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents come to New Horizons Boys Ranch from around the country, including from Thousand Oaks, California, and often find it beneficial to grow in a new environment separate from local peer groups.
Each adolescent begins by establishing trust with an adult mentor. Strenuous activities and daily chores contribute to a strong work ethic and numerous other positive character qualities. Then, framed by a relationship with a mentor, the adolescent can tackle the destructive choices that had held him or her back. We also provide individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Residents at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also offers independent study courses. All credits earned transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits our students well, permitting them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any productive education, and we communicate this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Lasting family restoration happens only with the close involvement of parents. We request parents to attend three family workshops during the year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen at our facility. We assist with frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
NHBR is a faith-based program that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, we teach values and character traits that will benefit your child into adulthood. Please consider looking beyond Thousand Oaks, California to see how our caring program can bring about restoration in your family.
