Our therapeutic boarding school is a Christian residential school with a heart for character growth and family restoration. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which troubled adolescents develop constructive life attitudes, grow in their belief, find a safe and nurturing environment, and conquer their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with inviting recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our picturesque mountainous location provides excellent opportunity for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Our school endeavors to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents arrive at New Horizons Boys Ranch from around the country, including from Torrance, California, and often find it constructive to experience a new environment away from local peer groups.
Every adolescent begins by forming trust with an adult mentor. Strenuous activities and daily chores build a solid work ethic and countless other positive character qualities. Then, framed by a relationship with a mentor, the teen can work through the conflicts that had held him or her back. We also offer individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also consists of independent study courses. All credits earned transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits our students well, making it possible for them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any successful education, and we convey this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration happens only with the full cooperation of parents. We ask parents to attend three family workshops during the year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen on our campus. We assist with frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which strengthens communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
NHBR is a faith-based program that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, we teach values and character traits that will be profitable for your child all of his or her life.
