We can work with your boy if he suffers from Conduct Disorder, a condition of recurring and persistent violations of social norms and the rights of others. Does he exhibit physical or verbal hostility, bullying towards people and pets, damaging behavior, dishonesty, truancy, destruction of property or stealing? The term refers to the distinction between a boy’s “typical” acting out and major misbehavior.
If he doesn’t get help, your boy might find himself facing issues of juvenile delinquency and misconduct that might involve school or even legal authorities. He might be held accountable for behavioral actions out of his control.
Treatment primarily centers on altering the behavior patterns that bolster bad behavior. Unlike other disorders, Conduct Disorder therapy can typically include the parents along with the boy. There is not a distinctly acceptable resolution to Conduct Disorder, but many programs include training parents to more effectively discipline and reward good behavior in an attempt to shatter the cycle of bad actions leading to more bad actions.
Conduct Disorder is thought to be a possible precursor to Antisocial Personality Disorder. Studies have indicated a preliminary link between different brain functions and lowered levels of compassion shown by those experiencing conduct disorders.
A supportive, Christian therapeutic boarding school for adolescent boys struggling with behavioral, emotional or academic issues, NHBR is here to help your boy learn to resist making destructive decisions, to achieve academically and physically, while learning to accept himself as a special and valuable human being.
Is your son struggling, out of control? Has his behavior changed dramatically within the last year? New Horizons can help him get on the other side of bad behaviors, anger and self-destruction. The structured lifestyle of our home-like environment will enable him to develop better life attitudes, so that he may face and conquer his problems and challenges.
We make the most of both an accredited distance-learning program as well as alternative methods, since different students learn in different ways, and at different paces. We work very hard on issues and problems … but we also play hard. Our rustic campus will provide plenty of outdoor time for camping, fishing, hunting, equine and other outdoor activities.
