Our school works hard to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and mentoring them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents arrive at New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the country, including from Albert Lea, Minnesota, and often find it beneficial to experience a new environment detached from local peer groups.
Our therapeutic boarding school is a faith-based residential school focused on character growth and family renewal. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like environment where troubled adolescents develop constructive life attitudes, flourish in their belief, find a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with inviting recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our gorgeous mountainous location is a great place for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each adolescent begins by building a relationship with an adult mentor. Strenuous activities and daily chores contribute to a strong work ethic and numerous other attractive character qualities. Then, framed by a relationship with a mentor, the child can overcome the destructive choices that had held him or her back. We also use individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Residents at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also offers independent study courses. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits our students well, making it possible for them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key role in any successful education, and we convey this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Genuine family restoration happens only with the total commitment of parents. We ask parents to attend three family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child at our facility. We support frequent contact between parents and their children using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
We are a faith-based program that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we teach values and character traits that will benefit your child for the rest of his or her life. Please think about looking beyond Albert Lea, Minnesota to see how our caring program can bring restoration to your family.
