New Horizons Boys Ranch endeavors to develop academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and mentoring them to rebuild relationships. Teens attend New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the country, including from Alexandria, Minnesota, and often find it advantageous to grow in a new environment detached from local peer groups.
New Horizons Boys Ranch is a faith-based residential program with a heart for character growth and family unity. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like atmosphere where struggling adolescents develop more positive life attitudes, flourish in their belief, find a safe and nurturing environment, and triumph over their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with inviting recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our picturesque mountainous location has much to offer in backpacking, camping and hiking.
Every teen begins by building a relationship with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores contribute to a solid work ethic and many other desirable character qualities. Then, supported by a relationship with a mentor, the teen can overcome the conflicts that had caused the need for intervention. We also use individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also uses independent study courses. All credits earned transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced attribute of the coursework suits our students well, permitting them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any successful education, and we convey this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration takes place only with the total commitment of parents. We ask parents to attend three family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen on our campus. We assist with frequent contact between parents and teens using tools such as letter writing, which strengthens communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
