New Horizons Boys Ranch endeavors to promote academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents attend New Horizons Boys Ranch from around the country, including from Andover, Minnesota, and often find it advantageous to experience a new environment away from local peer groups.
New Horizons Boys Ranch is a Christian residential program with a mission for character maturity and family restoration. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which struggling adolescents adopt better life attitudes, grow in their faith, experience a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with engaging recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our picturesque mountainous location is a great place for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Every boy begins by establishing a relationship with an adult mentor. Strenuous activities and daily chores contribute to a solid work ethic and countless other desirable character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the teen can tackle the destructive choices that had held him or her back. We also offer individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Residents at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also consists of independent study courses. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits our students well, making it possible for them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any productive education, and we communicate this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration occurs only with the full cooperation of parents. We ask parents to attend three family workshops during the year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen at our facility. We assist with frequent contact between parents and their children using tools such as letter writing, which promotes communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
