New Horizons Boys Ranch endeavors to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Teens attend New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the country, including from Arvada, Colorado, and often find it advantageous to experience a new environment separate from local peer groups.
Our therapeutic boarding school is a Christian residential school focused on character maturity and family restoration. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which struggling adolescents take on constructive life attitudes, grow in their belief, live in a safe and nurturing environment, and triumph over their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with inviting recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our beautiful mountainous location has much to offer in backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each adolescent begins by building trust with an adult mentor. Strenuous activities and daily chores foster a strong work ethic and numerous other desirable character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the child can work through the conflicts that had caused the need for intervention. We also provide individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also consists of independent study courses. All credits accumulated transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits our students well, allowing them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key role in any productive education, and we convey this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration takes place only with the close involvement of parents. We ask parents to attend three family workshops during the year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen on our campus. We support frequent contact between parents and teens using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
NHBR is a faith-based youth ranch that guides adolescents to find their place in life.
