Our school works hard to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents arrive at New Horizons Boys Ranch from around the country, including from Austin, Minnesota, and often find it beneficial to experience a new environment separate from local peer groups.
New Horizons Boys Ranch is a Christian residential program with a mission for character development and family renewal. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like atmosphere where troubled adolescents adopt better life attitudes, grow in their faith, live in a safe and nurturing environment, and triumph over their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with inviting recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our beautiful mountainous location provides excellent opportunity for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each teen begins by forming a relationship with an adult mentor. Strenuous activities and daily chores contribute to a solid work ethic and many other positive character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the child can tackle the conflicts that had held him or her back. We also offer individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also offers independent study courses. All credits accumulated transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits our students well, making it possible for them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any worthwhile education, and we communicate this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration takes place only with the close involvement of parents. We request parents to attend three family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen on our campus. We facilitate frequent contact between parents and teens using tools such as letter writing, which strengthens communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
We are a Christ-centered program that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we teach values and character traits that will serve your child into adulthood. Please think about looking beyond Austin, Minnesota to see how our caring program can lead to restoration in your family.
