New Horizons Boys Ranch endeavors to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and mentoring them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents attend New Horizons Boys Ranch from around the country, including from Azusa, California, and often find it beneficial to experience a new environment detached from local peer groups.
New Horizons Boys Ranch is a faith-based residential program focused on character maturity and family renewal. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which struggling adolescents develop more positive life attitudes, grow in their faith, live in a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with engaging recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our picturesque mountainous location has much to offer in backpacking, camping and hiking.
Every adolescent begins by establishing a relationship with an adult mentor. Engaging activities and daily chores build a solid work ethic and numerous other positive character qualities. Then, framed by a relationship with a mentor, the child can tackle the conflicts that had held him or her back. We also provide individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Students at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also consists of independent study courses. All credits earned transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced attribute of the coursework suits our students well, permitting them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any worthwhile education, and we convey this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Genuine family restoration happens only with the total commitment of parents. We request parents to attend three family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen on our campus. We support frequent contact between parents and their children using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
NHBR is a faith-based program that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, we stand by values and character traits that will be profitable for your child all of his or her life. Please consider looking beyond Azusa, California to see how our caring program can lead to restoration in your family. Azusa originally referred to the San Gabriel Valley and river, and likely derives from the Tongva place name Asuksagna.
