Our school endeavors to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Teens arrive at New Horizons Boys Ranch from around the country, including from Berkeley, California, and often find it valuable to grow in a new environment separate from local peer groups.
Our therapeutic boarding school is a Christian residential program with a heart for character development and family renewal. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which struggling adolescents take on better life attitudes, flourish in their faith, experience a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with inviting recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our gorgeous mountainous location is a great place for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each child begins by establishing a relationship with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores build a solid work ethic and countless other attractive character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the teen can tackle the conflicts that had held him or her back. We also provide individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Students at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also uses independent study courses. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits our students well, allowing them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key role in any worthwhile education, and we convey this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Lasting family restoration occurs only with the total commitment of parents. We ask parents to attend three family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen at our facility. We assist with frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which promotes communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
NHBR is a Christ-centered program that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we stand by values and character traits that will serve your child all of his or her life. Please consider looking beyond Berkeley, California to see how our caring program can lead to restoration in your family.
