New Horizons Boys Ranch works hard to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Teens come to New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the country, including from Buffalo, Minnesota, and often find it constructive to spend time in a new environment separate from local peer groups.
NHBR is a Christian residential school focused on character development and family unity. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which troubled adolescents adopt more positive life attitudes, flourish in their belief, find a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with inviting recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our beautiful mountainous location has much to offer in backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each child begins by forming a relationship with an adult mentor. Engaging activities and daily chores build a solid work ethic and many other desirable character qualities. Then, framed by a relationship with a mentor, the adolescent can work through the destructive choices that had caused the need for intervention. We also use individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also consists of independent study courses. All credits earned transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced attribute of the coursework suits our students well, allowing them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any productive education, and we communicate this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Genuine family restoration occurs only with the total commitment of parents. We ask parents to attend three family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child at our facility. We support frequent contact between parents and teens using tools such as letter writing, which strengthens communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
We are a Christ-centered program that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, we believe in values and character traits that will benefit your child all of his or her life. Please consider looking beyond Buffalo, Minnesota to see how our caring program can bring about restoration in your family.
