Our school works hard to develop academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and mentoring them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents attend New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the country, including from Burnsville, Minnesota, and often find it constructive to grow in a new environment detached from local peer groups.
NHBR is a faith-based residential school focused on character maturity and family renewal. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which troubled adolescents develop more positive life attitudes, flourish in their faith, experience a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with inviting recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our gorgeous mountainous location is a great place for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Every teen begins by establishing a relationship with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores foster a strong work ethic and many other attractive character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the adolescent can overcome the destructive choices that had held him or her back. We also provide individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also uses independent study courses. All credits earned transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits our students well, making it possible for them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any worthwhile education, and we convey this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration occurs only with the close involvement of parents. We ask parents to attend three family workshops during the year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child at our facility. We facilitate frequent contact between parents and their children using tools such as letter writing, which strengthens communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
We are a Christ-centered program that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we believe in values and character traits that will be profitable for your child into adulthood. Please think about looking outside of Burnsville, Minnesota to see how our caring program can bring restoration to your family.
