New Horizons Boys Ranch strives to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents come to New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the country, including from Carrollton, Texas, and often find it valuable to spend time in a new environment detached from local peer groups.
New Horizons Boys Ranch is a Christian residential program with a mission for character development and family unity. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like environment where struggling adolescents adopt better life attitudes, grow in their faith, live in a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with engaging recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our gorgeous mountainous location provides excellent opportunity for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each teen begins by building a relationship with an adult mentor. Engaging activities and daily chores contribute to a strong work ethic and numerous other desirable character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the child can tackle the conflicts that had held him or her back. We also offer individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Residents at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also uses independent study courses. All credits earned transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced attribute of the coursework suits our students well, making it possible for them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key role in any productive education, and we communicate this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Lasting family restoration takes place only with the full cooperation of parents. We request parents to attend three family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen on our campus. We support frequent contact between parents and teens using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
