Our school endeavors to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents attend New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the country, including from Champlin, Minnesota, and often find it advantageous to experience a new environment separate from local peer groups.
Our therapeutic boarding school is a faith-based residential program focused on character maturity and family unity. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like environment where troubled adolescents develop constructive life attitudes, flourish in their faith, find a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with engaging recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our gorgeous mountainous location provides excellent opportunity for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Every adolescent begins by establishing a relationship with an adult mentor. Engaging activities and daily chores build a solid work ethic and many other desirable character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the teen can overcome the destructive choices that had caused the need for intervention. We also use individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Students at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also consists of independent study courses. All credits earned transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits our students well, permitting them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any productive education, and we convey this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration occurs only with the full cooperation of parents. We request parents to attend three family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child on our campus. We facilitate frequent contact between parents and teens using tools such as letter writing, which promotes communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
NHBR is a faith-based program that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we believe in values and character traits that will be profitable for your child into adulthood. Please think about looking beyond Champlin, Minnesota to see how our caring program can bring restoration to your family.
