Our school endeavors to promote academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents come to New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the country, including from Circle Pines, Minnesota, and often find it advantageous to experience a new environment separate from local peer groups.
NHBR is a faith-based residential school with a mission for character maturity and family unity. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which struggling adolescents take on better life attitudes, grow in their belief, live in a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with inviting recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our picturesque mountainous location provides excellent opportunity for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each teen begins by forming trust with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores build a strong work ethic and numerous other desirable character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the teen can tackle the conflicts that had held him or her back. We also provide individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also uses independent study courses. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits our students well, permitting them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key role in any worthwhile education, and we communicate this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration happens only with the close involvement of parents. We require parents to attend three family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen at our facility. We assist with frequent contact between parents and their children using tools such as letter writing, which strengthens communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
We are a faith-based youth ranch that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, we stand by values and character traits that will serve your child into adulthood. Please think about looking outside of Circle Pines, Minnesota to see how our caring program can lead to restoration in your family.
