New Horizons Boys Ranch strives to promote academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents arrive at New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the country, including from Costa Mesa, California, and often find it constructive to spend time in a new environment detached from local peer groups.
Our therapeutic boarding school is a Christian residential school with a heart for character development and family unity. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which troubled adolescents develop constructive life attitudes, grow in their faith, live in a safe and nurturing environment, and triumph over their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with inviting recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our beautiful mountainous location has much to offer in backpacking, camping and hiking.
Every boy begins by forming trust with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores contribute to a solid work ethic and countless other attractive character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the adolescent can tackle the conflicts that had held him or her back. We also provide individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also offers independent study courses. All credits earned transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits our students well, allowing them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key role in any successful education, and we communicate this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Genuine family restoration happens only with the close involvement of parents. We require parents to attend three family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen on our campus. We facilitate frequent contact between parents and their children using tools such as letter writing, which promotes communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
NHBR is a faith-based program that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we teach values and character traits that will benefit your child into adulthood. Please consider looking beyond Costa Mesa, California to see how our caring program can lead to restoration in your family.
