Our school strives to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents arrive at New Horizons Boys Ranch from around the country, including from Cottage Grove, Minnesota, and often find it valuable to spend time in a new environment separate from local peer groups.
NHBR is a Christian residential school focused on character development and family restoration. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like atmosphere where struggling adolescents adopt more positive life attitudes, grow in their belief, experience a safe and nurturing environment, and conquer their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with inviting recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our picturesque mountainous location provides excellent opportunity for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each child begins by building trust with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores contribute to a solid work ethic and countless other attractive character qualities. Then, supported by a relationship with a mentor, the child can tackle the destructive choices that had caused the need for intervention. We also use individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also consists of independent study courses. All credits earned transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits our students well, allowing them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any successful education, and we convey this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration happens only with the full cooperation of parents. We ask parents to attend three family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child on our campus. We assist with frequent contact between parents and teens using tools such as letter writing, which strengthens communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
NHBR is a Christ-centered program that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we believe in values and character traits that will benefit your child for the rest of his or her life. Please think about looking outside of Cottage Grove, Minnesota to see how our caring program can bring restoration to your family.
