Our school strives to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents arrive at New Horizons Boys Ranch from around the country, including from Dallas, Texas, and often find it constructive to grow in a new environment separate from local peer groups.
Our therapeutic boarding school is a faith-based residential program focused on character growth and family restoration. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which troubled adolescents develop more positive life attitudes, grow in their belief, find a safe and nurturing environment, and triumph over their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with engaging recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our beautiful mountainous location is a great place for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each child begins by establishing a relationship with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores contribute to a strong work ethic and numerous other attractive character qualities. Then, supported by a relationship with a mentor, the adolescent can tackle the conflicts that had caused the need for intervention. We also offer individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Students at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also consists of independent study courses. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits our students well, permitting them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any successful education, and we communicate this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration occurs only with the total commitment of parents. We request parents to attend three family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen on our campus. We assist with frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which promotes communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
NHBR is a faith-based youth ranch that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we teach values and character traits that will serve your child for the rest of his or her life. Please think about looking outside of Dallas, Texas to see how our caring program can lead to restoration in your family.
