New Horizons Boys Ranch strives to develop academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Teens come to New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the nation, including from Fort Dodge, Iowa, and often find it advantageous to grow in a new environment away from local peer groups.
Our therapeutic boarding school is a faith-based residential school with a heart for character development and family renewal. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like atmosphere in which struggling adolescents take on more positive life attitudes, flourish in their belief, experience a safe and nurturing environment, and conquer their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with engaging recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our gorgeous mountainous location is a great place for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Every child begins by forming trust with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores build a strong work ethic and many other attractive character qualities. Then, framed by a relationship with a mentor, the child can work through the destructive choices that had held him or her back. We also offer individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also uses independent study courses. All credits earned transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits our students well, allowing them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any worthwhile education, and we convey this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration takes place only with the close involvement of parents. We ask parents to attend three family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen at our facility. We assist with frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which promotes communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
NHBR is a faith-based program that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, we teach values and character traits that will be profitable for your child for the rest of his or her life. Please think about looking beyond Fort Dodge, Iowa to see how our caring program can bring restoration to your family.
