Our school endeavors to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and mentoring them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents attend New Horizons Boys Ranch from around the country, including from Glendale, California, and often find it advantageous to grow in a new environment separate from local peer groups.
New Horizons Boys Ranch is a Christian residential school focused on character maturity and family unity. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like environment where troubled adolescents develop constructive life attitudes, flourish in their faith, find a safe and nurturing environment, and conquer their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with inviting recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our beautiful mountainous location provides excellent opportunity for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each child begins by building trust with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores foster a solid work ethic and countless other desirable character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the child can overcome the destructive choices that had caused the need for intervention. We also use individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Students at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also uses independent study courses. All credits accumulated transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits our students well, making it possible for them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any productive education, and we convey this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Lasting family restoration occurs only with the full cooperation of parents. We require parents to attend three family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen on our campus. We assist with frequent contact between parents and teens using tools such as letter writing, which strengthens communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
We are a faith-based program that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, we teach values and character traits that will be profitable for your child into adulthood. Please consider looking outside of Glendale, California to see how our caring program can bring restoration to your family.
