New Horizons Boys Ranch strives to promote academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents come to New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the nation, including from Grand Forks, North Dakota, and often find it advantageous to experience a new environment away from local peer groups.
NHBR is a Christian residential school focused on character development and family renewal. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which troubled adolescents develop constructive life attitudes, grow in their faith, experience a safe and nurturing environment, and triumph over their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with engaging recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our picturesque mountainous location provides excellent opportunity for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Every child begins by building trust with an adult mentor. Strenuous activities and daily chores foster a strong work ethic and many other attractive character qualities. Then, framed by a relationship with a mentor, the adolescent can overcome the destructive choices that had caused the need for intervention. We also provide individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also uses independent study courses. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits our students well, making it possible for them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key role in any worthwhile education, and we communicate this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration occurs only with the close involvement of parents. We require parents to attend three family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child on our campus. We facilitate frequent contact between parents and their children using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
We are a faith-based youth ranch that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we stand by values and character traits that will be profitable for your child for the rest of his or her life. Please consider looking outside of Grand Forks, North Dakota to see how our caring program can lead to restoration in your family.
