New Horizons Boys Ranch strives to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents attend New Horizons Boys Ranch from around the country, including from Grand Rapids, Minnesota, and often find it constructive to experience a new environment away from local peer groups.
Our therapeutic boarding school is a Christian residential school with a heart for character growth and family renewal. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like atmosphere where troubled adolescents take on constructive life attitudes, grow in their belief, find a safe and nurturing environment, and triumph over their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with inviting recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our gorgeous mountainous location has much to offer in backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each child begins by building trust with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores build a strong work ethic and numerous other desirable character qualities. Then, framed by a relationship with a mentor, the teen can tackle the conflicts that had caused the need for intervention. We also provide individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Students at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also offers independent study courses. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced attribute of the coursework suits our students well, permitting them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any worthwhile education, and we communicate this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Lasting family restoration occurs only with the full cooperation of parents. We require parents to attend three family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen at our facility. We assist with frequent contact between parents and their children using tools such as letter writing, which strengthens communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
NHBR is a Christ-centered program that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we stand by values and character traits that will be profitable for your child all of his or her life. Please think about looking beyond Grand Rapids, Minnesota to see how our caring program can lead to restoration in your family.
