Our school strives to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents attend New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the nation, including from Joliet, Illinois, and often find it beneficial to spend time in a new environment away from local peer groups.
NHBR is a Christian residential program with a heart for character growth and family restoration. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which troubled adolescents develop constructive life attitudes, grow in their faith, live in a safe and nurturing environment, and conquer their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with engaging recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our gorgeous mountainous location is a great place for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each boy begins by forming trust with an adult mentor. Engaging activities and daily chores foster a solid work ethic and countless other attractive character qualities. Then, supported by a relationship with a mentor, the teen can work through the conflicts that had held him or her back. We also use individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also consists of independent study courses. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits our students well, permitting them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any worthwhile education, and we convey this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Genuine family restoration happens only with the total commitment of parents. We require parents to attend three family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen on our campus. We facilitate frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which promotes communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
We are a Christ-centered program that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we believe in values and character traits that will be profitable for your child all of his or her life. Please think about looking beyond Joliet, Illinois to see how our caring program can bring restoration to your family.
