Our school endeavors to promote academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Teens come to New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the country, including from Lancaster, California, and often find it valuable to experience a new environment detached from local peer groups.
NHBR is a Christian residential school with a mission for character growth and family unity. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which struggling adolescents adopt better life attitudes, grow in their belief, experience a safe and nurturing environment, and conquer their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with inviting recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our beautiful mountainous location provides excellent opportunity for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Every teen begins by establishing a relationship with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores build a solid work ethic and countless other positive character qualities. Then, supported by a relationship with a mentor, the child can tackle the conflicts that had held him or her back. We also provide individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Students at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also consists of independent study courses. All credits accumulated transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits our students well, allowing them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any productive education, and we communicate this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Lasting family restoration happens only with the full cooperation of parents. We ask parents to attend three family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen at our facility. We support frequent contact between parents and their children using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
We are a Christ-centered program that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we stand by values and character traits that will be profitable for your child into adulthood. Please consider looking beyond Lancaster, California to see how our caring program can bring about restoration in your family.
