New Horizons Boys Ranch endeavors to promote academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and mentoring them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents attend New Horizons Boys Ranch from around the country, including from Little Rock, Arkansas, and often find it valuable to spend time in a new environment detached from local peer groups.
NHBR is a Christian residential school with a mission for character development and family unity. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment where struggling adolescents develop better life attitudes, grow in their faith, experience a safe and nurturing environment, and conquer their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with inviting recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our beautiful mountainous location is a great place for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each teen begins by establishing trust with an adult mentor. Strenuous activities and daily chores build a solid work ethic and countless other desirable character qualities. Then, framed by a relationship with a mentor, the child can tackle the destructive choices that had caused the need for intervention. We also use individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Students at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also consists of independent study courses. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits our students well, permitting them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any worthwhile education, and we convey this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Genuine family restoration happens only with the full cooperation of parents. We ask parents to attend three family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child on our campus. We facilitate frequent contact between parents and teens using tools such as letter writing, which strengthens communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
We are a Christ-centered youth ranch that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we teach values and character traits that will serve your child for the rest of his or her life.
