Our school works hard to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Teens attend New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the country, including from Mason City, Iowa, and often find it valuable to grow in a new environment away from local peer groups.
New Horizons Boys Ranch is a faith-based residential program focused on character maturity and family unity. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like atmosphere in which troubled adolescents develop constructive life attitudes, flourish in their belief, experience a safe and nurturing environment, and triumph over their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with engaging recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our picturesque mountainous location has much to offer in backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each teen begins by establishing trust with an adult mentor. Engaging activities and daily chores build a strong work ethic and numerous other positive character qualities. Then, framed by a relationship with a mentor, the child can tackle the conflicts that had held him or her back. We also offer individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Students at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also offers independent study courses. All credits earned transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits our students well, making it possible for them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any successful education, and we communicate this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Genuine family restoration occurs only with the close involvement of parents. We ask parents to attend three family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child on our campus. We assist with frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
We are a faith-based program that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, we stand by values and character traits that will benefit your child all of his or her life. Please consider looking beyond Mason City, Iowa to see how our caring program can lead to restoration in your family.
