Our school strives to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and mentoring them to rebuild relationships. Teens come to New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the country, including from Mount Vernon, Washington, and often find it advantageous to spend time in a new environment detached from local peer groups.
NHBR is a Christian residential program focused on character development and family unity. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which troubled adolescents adopt constructive life attitudes, grow in their belief, experience a safe and nurturing environment, and triumph over their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with engaging recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our picturesque mountainous location has much to offer in backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each boy begins by establishing trust with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores build a strong work ethic and countless other desirable character qualities. Then, supported by a relationship with a mentor, the teen can work through the destructive choices that had caused the need for intervention. We also provide individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Students at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also offers independent study courses. All credits earned transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced attribute of the coursework suits our students well, allowing them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any productive education, and we convey this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration occurs only with the total commitment of parents. We request parents to attend three family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen at our facility. We support frequent contact between parents and their children using tools such as letter writing, which strengthens communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
NHBR is a faith-based youth ranch that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we believe in values and character traits that will be profitable for your child all of his or her life.
