Our school works hard to promote academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents come to New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the nation, including from Owatonna, Minnesota, and often find it beneficial to grow in a new environment away from local peer groups.
NHBR is a Christian residential school with a heart for character maturity and family renewal. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which troubled adolescents take on constructive life attitudes, flourish in their faith, find a safe and nurturing environment, and conquer their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with inviting recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our picturesque mountainous location is a great place for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each boy begins by establishing a relationship with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores foster a solid work ethic and many other positive character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the adolescent can work through the destructive choices that had caused the need for intervention. We also use individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also uses independent study courses. All credits earned transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits our students well, making it possible for them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any worthwhile education, and we communicate this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration happens only with the total commitment of parents. We require parents to attend three family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen at our facility. We assist with frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
We are a Christ-centered youth ranch that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, we stand by values and character traits that will benefit your child all of his or her life. Please think about looking beyond Owatonna, Minnesota to see how our caring program can bring restoration to your family.
