Our school endeavors to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Teens attend New Horizons Boys Ranch from around the country, including from Scottsdale, Arizona, and often find it advantageous to spend time in a new environment detached from local peer groups.
New Horizons Boys Ranch is a Christian residential school with a heart for character growth and family restoration. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like atmosphere where troubled adolescents develop better life attitudes, grow in their faith, experience a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with engaging recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our picturesque mountainous location has much to offer in backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each adolescent begins by forming trust with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores build a strong work ethic and many other attractive character qualities. Then, framed by a relationship with a mentor, the adolescent can work through the destructive choices that had caused the need for intervention. We also provide individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also offers independent study courses. All credits earned transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits our students well, allowing them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any productive education, and we communicate this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Genuine family restoration occurs only with the full cooperation of parents. We ask parents to attend three family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child on our campus. We assist with frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which promotes communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
NHBR is a Christ-centered youth ranch that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, we stand by values and character traits that will be profitable for your child all of his or her life. Please consider looking beyond Scottsdale, Arizona to see how our caring program can bring about restoration in your family.
