Our school strives to develop academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Teens arrive at New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the nation, including from Sioux City, Iowa, and often find it beneficial to grow in a new environment away from local peer groups.
Our therapeutic boarding school is a Christian residential school with a heart for character growth and family restoration. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like atmosphere where struggling adolescents adopt constructive life attitudes, grow in their faith, find a safe and nurturing environment, and conquer their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with engaging recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our gorgeous mountainous location has much to offer in backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each boy begins by building trust with an adult mentor. Engaging activities and daily chores build a solid work ethic and countless other attractive character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the teen can tackle the conflicts that had caused the need for intervention. We also use individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also consists of independent study courses. All credits earned transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits our students well, making it possible for them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any successful education, and we communicate this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Lasting family restoration occurs only with the close involvement of parents. We request parents to attend three family workshops during the year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen at our facility. We facilitate frequent contact between parents and their children using tools such as letter writing, which strengthens communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
We are a faith-based youth ranch that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we stand by values and character traits that will be profitable for your child into adulthood. Please consider looking beyond Sioux City, Iowa to see how our caring program can bring restoration to your family.
